Audience Profile

Certificate of the film:
I have decided to rate this film as a 15, so it can have a wider audience range. This will most likely mean it would recive a higher gross in the box office. i want to push the limit of it being a 15 as the younger audience who are under 18 will most likely have a much higher oponion of the film. The film is a mixtrure sub genre's of the film is dark-supernatural, and also surreal. The film will have a fair amount of subtle swear words and more chilling horror then gore and violence, so in my opoinion it is suitable to be a rated as a 15.

Who will it appeal to? :
Due to the film being a mixed genre of dark-supernatural and surrealism, the film will appeal to fans of both genres. Although it has a certificate of 15 the film will most likely be viewed by people aged 14-30. This is because most horror films are aimed at younger audiences because they prone to feel fear at most horror films, which is really exciting and overwhelming for them, Even if the film might be not very good but as long as it is scary the younger audiences of the film will still enjoy it. The film will also appeal to older audiences also who find the surrealism of the film interesting and new. I conducted a survey to audiences of horror films and found 80% of people thought the target audience for horror films are 15-30.

Gender:
don't think there is a target gender for this film as most horrors including this one are very unisex and can be enjoyed thoroughly by both sexes, which is one of the many good reasons to make a film within the horror genre.

Age:
The certificate of the film is 15 so it has a wider audience range and main visitor's to the cinema are aged around 15. I think that the oldest viewers will be around the age 40. The British Board of Film Classification would probably also certificate this as a 15 as well because of the mild language, sex, violence and disturbing scenes.

Race:
The film will predominantly be aimed at English and American viewers and all other people in the western society because it is a British made film which has a particular market, its not the type of film which would be played in the Bollywood market.

Class and interests:
the main audience of this film will be a male or female aged 15 - 25 who is middle classed. this person will liked to be scared in compelling and different ways, especially likes disturbing paranormal scenes. this persons interests will be earning money and doing well in life but also likes to live on the edge a little and has a good social life.

Swot chart for...

Strengths
The horror film market is a strong genre which appeals to a wide range of audiences, but mainly young people. which is a strong market to appeal for as young people are usually the type of audience which will visit the cinema regular and spend a fair amount of money on.

Weakness'
The weakness' would be that this film would have a fairly low budget and wont have top Hollywood actors in, also that it may not be as well advertised against films that will be coming out at the same time.

Opportunities

  • Halloween is coming up.
  • Relatively wide range of audience.
  • Mainly appeals to young people which is one of the best markets to appeal to.
  • Low budget which makes it easier to break even.

Threats

  • Other films in this genre would be coming out at the time.
  • Unknown director.
  • Not top actors will be in the film.
  • Low budgets.
  • Up against films which have much higher budgets.
